Bela – the Croatian card game online
Bela (called Belot in Bosnia and Serbia) is Croatia’s favourite card game: four players in two fixed partnerships with a 32-card deck, played anticlockwise. Everyone gets six cards plus two face down (the talon); in turn each player may name trumps once or say “dalje” (pass), and if all pass the dealer must choose (mus). In trumps the jack is worth 20 and the nine 14. You must head the trick, and trump when you cannot follow. Zvanja (sequences, four of a kind), bela (king and queen of trumps) 20 and all tricks (štiglja) +90; the calling team must take more than half the points or it falls (pad). Games go to 1001 – play with friends or against computer players of three skill levels.
The rules in brief
- 6 cards in hand + 2 face down (talon); each names trumps once or says “dalje” (pass) – the dealer must choose last (mus)
- You must head the trick, and trump when void – even over your partner
- Zvanja (sequences, four of a kind), bela 20, štiglja +90; the calling team needs more than half – play to 1001
