Euchre – the Canadian card game online

Euchre is the favourite card game of Canada – Ontario above all – and the American Midwest: four players in two partnerships with a 24-card deck from nine to ace. Order up the turn-up card as trumps or name another suit in the second round; the jack of trumps (right bower) is highest, followed by the other jack of the same colour (left bower). Three tricks score a point, a march of all five scores two, and going alone for all five scores four – get euchred and the defenders take two. Play against computer players at three skill levels or with friends, with stick the dealer and the Canadian loner rule.

The rules in brief

• Turn-up card: order it up as trumps (the dealer picks it up) or name another suit in round two
• The jack of trumps (right bower) is highest, then the other jack of the same colour (left bower) – it counts as a trump
• 3–4 tricks = 1 point, all 5 (march) = 2, alone all 5 = 4; if the makers are euchred, the defenders score 2 – game to 10
