Tysiąc (“thousand”) is one of Poland’s favourite card games: three players, 24 cards from nine to ace. The highest bidder takes the three-card musik, passes one card to each opponent and declares a contract. King and queen of a suit form a marriage (meldunek) – hearts 100, diamonds 80, clubs 60, spades 40 – and make that suit trumps. With a hopeless hand there is the bomb. The first to reach 1000 points wins – practise against the computer or play with friends.
